Growing a dairy business into new kinds of snacking

A food company’s dairy business was strong in a few familiar products and saw room to grow in snacking. We mapped where it could grow, then generated ideas and developed concepts with consumers for the next years of its pipeline.

Our role
A growth map, ideation and concept development for a snacking pipeline

The question

The business was strong in a handful of products people knew well, and it saw room to grow in snacking, where the way people eat between meals was changing faster than its range.

It needed a pipeline for the next few years: where it could credibly play, and which ideas deserved development first.

Our approach

We started with a growth map, built from the company’s existing knowledge, category trends and consumer research, so the ideas would begin from real opportunities rather than from the products the business already made.

Ideas were then generated, screened with consumers in quick qualitative rounds and crafted into concepts in small groups, with each round reshaping the concepts that stayed in.

What the team came away with

A growth map of where the business could compete in snacking, and a set of developed concepts recommended for quantitative testing, each with what it would need to deliver.

The ideas set aside were recorded too, with the reasons, so the pipeline could be revisited without starting again.
